Used Inflatable Boats (RIBs): Versatility and Fun
Inflatable boats (or RIBs - Rigid Inflatable Boats) are the kings of versatility. Perfect for day trips, water sports, or general tenders for large yachts, they offer stability, safety, and unmatched performance.
Why buy a used RIB?
RIBs are robust and easy to handle. A quality used one allows you to have a high-performance vessel at an affordable price. Their resale value is very high, making them a great investment for the short and long term.
Materials: Neoprene or PVC?
Neoprene (Hypalon) is more resistant to UV rays and chemicals, ideal for those who leave the RIB in the water for long periods. PVC is cheaper and lighter, perfect for occasional use or trailering, but suffers more from prolonged sun exposure.
Outboard vs. Inboard Engines
Most RIBs are fitted with Outboard engines, which are easy to maintain and replace. Larger models (Maxi RIBs) may have Inboard diesel engines for greater range and a clear stern platform.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do the tubes degrade over time?
With proper maintenance and cleaning, tubes can last for decades. It is important to protect them from UV rays when not in use and repair small leaks promptly.
Do I need a license for a RIB?
Regulations vary by country. In many places, high-horsepower engines allow for significant speed, often requiring a license. Always check local regulations regarding engine power and distance from shore.
