Primatist G 33: variants, checks and asking prices

A used Primatist G 33 deep dive covering two documented configurations, conflicting dimensions, twin-V8 inspection priorities and Batoo asking prices.

In brief

The Primatist G 33 is a cabin sports boat suited to fast day trips and short cruises with a small crew. The two observed boats have different petrol V8 packages and incompatible stated dimensions. Its main caveat is therefore version uncertainty, compounded by the cost and complexity of ageing twin engines and sterndrives.

The Primatist G 33 is best approached as an individual used boat, not as a single immutable specification. Batoo's evidence covers two examples from 1998 and 1999 whose stated dimensions, displacement and engines diverge materially. Documents, identification plates and serial numbers therefore matter more than a neat composite data sheet.

Design, specifications and documented variants

Both observed boats combine a GRP hull, an open cockpit and accommodation described as two cabins with one head. That places the G 33 in the late-1990s sports-cruiser idiom: substantial outdoor space and overnight capability, without the enclosed volume of a heavier all-weather cruiser.

These are offer-specific figures supported by the Batoo records and the broker's primary sheets, not recovered factory specifications. They cannot all describe one standard version. Different measuring conventions, variants, later changes or record errors remain possible, so this dossier deliberately does not average length, beam, draught or mass.

Pros and cons in practical ownership

The attractive proposition is a boat that can serve two roles. Its open deck plan suits swimming, social day trips and fair-weather running, while the cabin arrangement adds weekend range for a small party. Twin sterndrives also fit the performance-led character and provide two propulsion units rather than one.

Complexity is the corresponding limitation. Two ageing petrol V8s mean two fuel, cooling, ignition and exhaust systems as well as two drives and trim mechanisms. Installed horsepower is not a promise of speed. Hull condition, propellers, load, drive ratios and engine health all affect the outcome, and the advertised speeds were not treated as verified test results.

Accommodation should be judged aboard. Two cabins on a boat around ten metres do not automatically mean comfortable berths, standing room or good ventilation for every crew. Nor can reliable range be calculated from nominal tankage alone without a measured fuel burn under a defined load and speed.

Ideal use and the buyer it suits

This model makes most sense for an owner who wants quick day boating, swimming stops and occasional short cruises, and who has budgeted for twin-V8 running costs. The actual hull should be measured before committing to a berth. The gap between 9.40 and 9.99 metres, and between 2.67 and 3.00 metres of beam, can affect availability, lifting and fees.

It is a weaker match for extended liveaboard use, four-season shelter or buyers seeking low and readily predictable fuel expense. A purchase budget with no reserve for deferred maintenance is also risky. On a boat more than 25 years old, drives, fuel hardware, wiring and soft furnishings may be more financially important than the displayed engine-hour total.

Used-boat checks that matter most

Begin by proving what the boat is. Reconcile the hull identification, registration papers, build year, engine plates and drive serials. Mercury's official manual service says a MerCruiser manual is selected by serial number, found on the engine or flame-arrestor cover. Apply the same serial-led discipline to the Volvo installation; never buy parts or accept a service schedule merely from an advertisement label.

An independent survey should examine the laminate, transom around the drive cut-outs, structural bonds, bilge and evidence of water ingress. For each sterndrive, request invoices and inspect bellows, universal joints, trim, lubricant and corrosion protection. Petrol installations warrant close attention to compartment ventilation, hoses, filters, ignition protection, exhausts and cooling. Cold starts, appropriate mechanical tests and a properly loaded sea trial should support any judgment about condition.

Operate electrical equipment under load, then test bilge pumps, freshwater system, head, refrigeration, windlass and instruments. Nominal fuel and water capacities do not establish tank condition; access, mounts, smells and leakage need physical inspection. Make the contractual inventory explicit because listing photographs show an individual boat, not guaranteed standard equipment.

Alternatives and a useful comparison

This is a set of cross-shopping prompts, not a ranking. Compare surveyed boats of similar condition with documented work and sea trials. The Primatist may appeal through a more overtly sporting layout; another candidate may win on interior distribution, weather protection or local service support.

Observed prices and Batoo methodology

On 25 September 2026, the dossier contained two active Batoo asking prices: €49,000 for the 1999 example and €59,000 for the 1998 example. The observed range is therefore €49,000–€59,000 with a sample of two. It is neither a valuation nor evidence of completed transaction prices.

Condition, documented work, options, tax position and negotiation can alter the final figure. The older boat carrying the higher ask is a warning against deriving depreciation from this sample. Batoo analysis separates advertised price from value; the latter needs survey findings, service history, deferred-cost estimates and genuinely comparable boats.

Images come from current Batoo listings and may show different individual boats, years and configurations. Brokers and sellers have not reviewed, validated or approved this dossier. Broker Pro denotes an active Batoo subscription only; it is not identity or KYB verification and never guarantees editorial coverage, ranking, a favourable assessment or inclusion in the stable article body.
