Primatist G 46 Aero Top Pininfarina used-boat guide
Specifications, layout differences, IPS checks, alternatives and observed asking prices for evaluating a used Primatist G 46 Aero Top Pininfarina.

In brief
The Primatist G 46 Aero Top Pininfarina is a 14.10-metre hard-top cruiser for couples or families wanting outdoor living, real cabins and IPS propulsion. Its main caveat is complexity: layouts and stated draught vary, while engines, pods, roof and hotel systems require records, an independent survey and a properly conducted sea trial.

The Primatist G 46 Aero Top Pininfarina is a 14-metre hard-top cruiser whose appeal combines distinctive styling, genuine accommodation and Volvo Penta IPS propulsion. Buying one used still requires more than recognising the silhouette. Boats of similar age can have different cabin arrangements, declared draughts, refit histories and pod-drive condition, so this guide keeps design documentation, Batoo listing observations and unresolved questions in separate lanes.
Design, specifications and documented variants
Pininfarina’s 2006 annual report says the company completed design work on the Primatist G46. That is primary evidence for design attribution, but it says nothing about the condition of a particular used boat. A contemporary 2009 Barche report identifies a version shown at Genoa with a larger galley below, leaving the cockpit focused on living space. It demonstrates why “G 46” should not be treated as one immutable interior.
| Item | Design or period reference | Batoo dossier observations |
|---|---|---|
| Length overall | 14.10 m | 14.10 m |
| Beam | 4.50 m | 4.50 m |
| Draught | 1.16 m | 1.16–1.20 m |
| Engines | Twin Volvo Penta at 430 hp in the 2009 report | Twin D6-435 IPS 600, 435 hp each |
| Accommodation | 6+2 berths and CE category B in the 2009 report | Two or three cabins; two heads |
The 1.16 and 1.20-metre draught values must not be averaged. They may reflect rounding, measurement convention or individual configuration, and should remain an unresolved version difference until the boat’s own papers are checked. Cabins need the same discipline: the dossier records one three-cabin boat and one two-cabin boat, which may indicate an original option or later conversion.
Both observed hulls are described as fibreglass. Their twin D6-435 installations give a stated total of 870 hp, while engine hours belong only to those individual listings: 900 hours for the 2009 boat and 820 for the 2010 boat when observed. Neither figure is a model-wide specification or a promise of present availability.
Reasoned strengths and limitations
The strongest part of the proposition is how the footprint is used. A 4.50-metre beam within a 14.10-metre hull supports a protected cockpit and meaningful lower-deck accommodation. Depending on layout, a buyer may prioritise two larger cabins or gain a third sleeping compartment, making the boat relevant to both sociable day use and short family cruises.
IPS can also make close-quarters control more approachable when the complete system is healthy and correctly calibrated. That benefit is conditional. Joystick commands, electronic controls, engines and pods operate as one driveline, so deferred maintenance or an intermittent fault can be expensive and must not be concealed by a brief marina demonstration.
The trade-offs are added systems and ageing interfaces. A hard top, extensive glazing, garage and comfort equipment create seals, actuators, drainage paths and electrical loads that deserve inspection. Helm visibility, side-deck movement and line handling should be tested by the intended skipper and crew; attractive design does not automatically fit every body or berthing routine.
Ideal use and the owner it suits
The G 46 best suits an owner seeking a fast Mediterranean cruiser with generous outdoor living and proper overnight capability, but without the height and separation of a flybridge. Couples and families moving between anchorages and marinas can use its mix of shelter, sun areas and cabins effectively. They should budget as owners of a complex twin-diesel boat, not as buyers of a simple weekender.
It is a weaker match for someone whose priorities are mechanical minimalism, displacement-speed economy or long-duration self-sufficiency. Published passenger capacity is also different from comfortable cruising capacity. Water, stowage, tender space, privacy and payload should be tested against the actual crew rather than inferred from a headline number. These are Batoo editorial conclusions, not first-hand sea-trial findings.
Used-boat checks for hull, IPS and systems
Due diligence starts with identity and records: hull number, build and registration dates, compliance papers, title, invoices and maintenance chronology. Displayed hours and claims of major work become useful only when they match serial numbers, dates and documentary evidence. An independent surveyor should inspect moisture, repairs, through-hulls, garage structure, roof seals, windows and drainage.
The engines and pod drives require exact product identification, electronic diagnostics and inspection of fluids, corrosion protection, anodes, seals, propellers and play. Volvo Penta’s official parts catalogue separates D6 generations and service kits by series and serial threshold, while directing owners to the correct operator’s manual for intervals. A generic “D6 service” label is therefore not enough; the nameplates and service protocol must agree.
A sea trial should begin cold where practical and cover starting behaviour, abnormal smoke, temperatures, pressures, matched loading, steering, trim, vibration and joystick response. The generator, air conditioning, chargers, pumps, heads, galley, windlass, passerelle and opening roof also need to operate under load. Hauling out adds the essential view of hull and pods and enables moisture readings beyond what an alongside inspection can establish.
Alternatives and programme-based comparison
| Alternative | Reason to compare | Main caution |
|---|---|---|
| Princess V42 | Recognisable British hard-top used market | Generation, engines and layouts vary |
| Cranchi Endurance 39 | More compact Mediterranean sports-cruiser idea | Smaller volume makes size comparison imperfect |
| Azimut Atlantis 45 | Newer interpretation of the sports-cruiser brief | Age, systems and pricing are not equivalent |
| Airon Marine 4300 T-Top | Italian concept with similar social focus | Check driveline and cabin configuration |
The useful shortlist follows the cruising programme. A family needing three closed sleeping spaces should compare privacy and ventilation; a couple may prefer a more generous two-cabin arrangement. A buyer worried about pod costs should compare documented condition and access on actual boats, rather than assume that one propulsion architecture always wins.
Observed asking prices and Batoo methodology
On 22 September 2026 the dossier contained two euro asking prices: €280,000 and €290,000. The observed range is therefore €280,000–€290,000 from a sample of two active, editorially eligible Batoo offers. It is not a valuation, transaction evidence or a broad market average. Tax position, year, layout, refit scope, equipment, location and negotiation can materially alter a final price.
The two offers are associated with active Broker Pro subscriptions. Broker Pro means an active subscription only; it is not identity or KYB verification and never guarantees editorial coverage, ranking, inclusion or a positive assessment. Subscription status, offer freshness, editorial eligibility and separately reported identity status are four different signals.
Images come from current listings and may show different individual boats, years and configurations. Brokers and sellers have not reviewed, validated or approved this dossier. Any specification, maintenance claim or alteration must be confirmed against the documents and inspection of the boat under consideration.
