Cranchi Endurance 39: model and used-boat guide
A source-grounded Cranchi Endurance 39 guide covering KAD44 and KAD300 variants, conflicting dimensions, used checks, alternatives and observed asking prices.

In brief
The Cranchi Endurance 39 is a habitable sports open for owners combining day trips with weekends for two to four people. Depending on year and boat, documented engines include KAD44 and KAD300 diesels. Its main caveat is age and inconsistent records: dimensions, layout, machinery and both sterndrives require boat-specific documentary and technical verification.

The Cranchi Endurance 39 is best understood as a habitable sports open from its own period, rather than a smaller version of a current yacht. Its appeal comes from joining a large outdoor cockpit to credible weekending accommodation and twin diesel sterndrives. Its central caveat is age: maintenance history, drive condition and later alterations now matter more than the badge. This guide keeps official facts, Batoo listing observations, editorial analysis and unresolved points separate.
Design, characteristics and specifications to verify
The plan gives priority to open-air use. Helm, passenger seating and the main social area occupy the cockpit, with the foredeck and bathing platform extending movement around the boat. Below, documented examples combine a forward dinette, galley, heads compartment and aft sleeping area. Listings disagree over whether that arrangement counts as one or two cabins, so a buyer should inspect actual privacy, ventilation and berth dimensions instead of treating a cabin label as a series-wide truth.
| Item | 1997–2003 Batoo dossier | 2001 Cranchi record | Responsible reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 11.95–12.42 m | 12.45 m | likely different conventions or alterations |
| Beam | 3.50 m | 3.50 m | consistent across the reviewed records |
| Draught | 0.80–1.20 m | 0.90 m | confirm on the individual boat and papers |
| Engines | twin 260 or twin 285 hp | twin 260 hp KAD44 EDC | year- and boat-specific configuration |
| Fuel | one listing misplaces “780” in a fuel field | 780 litres | plausible capacity, not proven for every version |
Cranchi’s official site currently documents one dealer-selected 2001 boat, not a homologation sheet for every Endurance 39. It gives 12.45 metres length, 3.50 metres beam, 0.90 metres draught, CE category B, GRP construction and 780 litres of fuel. The selected Batoo dossier covers 1997 and 2003 boats and contains incompatible measurements. Batoo therefore leaves the conflict open: registration papers, the owner’s manual, hull identity and a physical measurement should govern any purchase or berth decision.
Variants, engines and drive systems
The three observed boats are not interchangeable specifications. The 1997 example is declared with twin Volvo Penta KAD44 units at 260 hp each; both 2003 examples use KAD300 engines rated at 285 hp each. That produces declared totals of 520 and 570 hp. Volvo Penta’s primary 2001 release describes the KAD300 as a 3.6-litre six-cylinder diesel making 285 hp at the crankshaft and 272 hp at the propeller shaft, with a 3,800 rpm maximum and DP-G Duoprop drive.
Volvo Penta’s product archive places the broader KAD sterndrive family in production from 1991 to 2006 and describes its combination of mechanical compressor, turbocharger, charge-air cooling and electronics. Those are architecture facts, not condition guarantees. Compressor engagement, turbo response, cooling, exhausts, EDC controls and both drives need to be assessed as one system. Declared engine hours of 700 to 1,131 provide context, but invoices, cold starting, diagnostics and fluid analysis are more useful than the counter alone.
Published performance also needs disciplined treatment. The single 2001 record on Cranchi’s site states 36 knots maximum, 29 knots cruise and 244 nautical miles of range. Those figures are not an independent test and should not be assigned to the selected boats. Load, propellers, hull fouling, temperature, altitude and engine health all affect output. A survey sea trial should record attained rpm, temperatures, smoke, trim, vibration and any asymmetry between the two installations.
Reasoned strengths and limitations
The strongest argument for the Endurance 39 is the dual-purpose layout. The cockpit supports sociable day boating, while the lower deck makes short cruises possible without relying on shore accommodation every night. A 3.50-metre beam supports useful interior and cockpit width. Twin engines can also provide fine directional control when the drives, controls and propellers are healthy.
The limitations are equally material. Machinery access, ventilation and clearance around the sterndrives should be judged by a technician because tightly packed systems raise labour time. A broad open cockpit depends on sound covers, drains and seals; neglected water entry can migrate into furniture, bulkheads and wiring. Running, berthing and winter-storage costs remain those of a twin-engine boat close to twelve metres, not those of a light dayboat.
Batoo’s analysis sees value in the documented period-correct engine choices and the recognisable open-cruiser plan. It also treats dimensional and accommodation inconsistencies as a purchasing risk to manage. The mismatch does not prove a defect, but it is a sound reason to make any agreement conditional on satisfactory technical and documentary checks.
Ideal use and who it suits best
The Endurance 39 suits an owner mixing day trips, swimming stops and weekends for two to four people, while accepting responsibility for two diesels and two sterndrives. It is particularly relevant to buyers who value cockpit space more than a formally divided second cabin and who have access to a workshop familiar with older Volvo Penta KAD systems. It is a weaker fit for minimal fixed costs, extensive enclosed volume or long periods of inactivity.
Berth planning deserves early attention. A half-metre variation in declared length can change tariff bands or availability, while inconsistent draught values affect confidence in shallow marinas and haul-out planning. A buyer should ask the marina which dimension it uses for acceptance and billing, then compare that requirement with the individual boat’s official documents and actual appendages.
Used-boat checks before committing
The survey should begin ashore. The surveyor should examine hull laminate moisture, supports and internal structure, transom, through-hulls, steering, trim tabs, counter-rotating propellers and drive play. On deck, test drainage, rails, windlass, windscreen, hatches, upholstery and covers. Below, concentrate on odours, leaks, gas installation, electrical panel, charger, pumps and sanitation discharge arrangements.
The engine inspection needs a genuinely cold start, a traceable service history and attention to age-based tasks as well as operating hours. Heat exchangers, raw-water circuits, bellows, hoses, mounts, seals, drive oil and galvanic corrosion all deserve written findings. The sea trial should last long enough to stabilise temperatures, reach the expected rated rpm and repeat ahead-to-astern engagement without abnormal delay or impact.
Paperwork completes the picture: title, applicable conformity and category records, CIN/HIN, invoices, included inventory, structural work and evidence for modified systems. The dossier notes extended platforms on individual boats; these are not standard-series facts. Measure them, verify the work and include the resulting overall length in berth and insurance discussions. Sales wording cannot replace an independent survey, mechanical trial or legal check.
Alternatives, asking prices and market methodology
| Alternative | Why compare it | Deciding question |
|---|---|---|
| Cranchi Endurance 41 | close family concept and scale | does the extra size deliver usable value? |
| Cranchi Mediterranee 40 | period Italian cruiser with a different balance | open cockpit or more enclosed accommodation? |
| Cranchi Zaffiro 34 | potentially lower footprint and ownership cost | is its reduced space enough for the crew? |
| Shaft-drive express cruiser | different mechanical proposition | will you trade sterndrive traits for shaft simplicity? |
The observed range is €84,000–€97,000 across three active, editorially eligible Batoo offers captured on 24 August 2026: €84,000 for a 1997 boat and €95,000–€97,000 for two 2003 boats. These are asking prices, not a valuation and not evidence of achieved sale prices. Tax position, deferred work, equipment, provenance, condition, model year and negotiation can materially change the final amount.
A useful comparison adds survey, haul-out, baseline servicing, possible drive work, safety equipment and insurance requirements to the purchase figure. A more expensive, well-documented boat may cost less over its first two seasons, while a low headline price can quickly consume the difference. Rank candidates by verified total cost and suitability for the intended programme, not by the advertisement number alone.
