Pardo 38 across versions, engines and the used market
A version-aware Pardo 38 analysis covering official specifications, engines, suitable use, used-boat checks and Batoo’s two-offer asking-price range.

In brief
The Pardo 38 is a sporting walkaround for day trips, anchor stops and occasional weekends for a couple or small family. Its open deck is the main attraction, but 2021 and current factory documents differ on length, draft and displacement, so the individual boat’s papers are the key caveat.

The Pardo 38 is a premium open walkaround built around life on deck: uninterrupted side circulation, large sunpads and a helm sheltered by a T-top. It is more capable than a pure day boat, yet buyers should keep the format in perspective. The optional two-cabin arrangement can support a weekend for a couple or small family, but it cannot provide the enclosed volume of a similarly sized cabin cruiser.
This dossier keeps evidence in separate lanes. Design data comes from Pardo documentation; years, engine hours and prices are observations from Batoo offers on 12 October 2026; suitability, strengths and limitations are Batoo editorial analysis. Conflicting documents are not blended into a convenient average, and every boat must be checked against its own papers.
Design, specifications and version differences
Pardo credits exterior and interior design to Zuccheri Yacht Design with Cantiere del Pardo, and naval architecture to Zuccheri Yacht Design. The single-level walkaround deck connects a forward sunpad, an aft social area and an outdoor galley. A carbon T-top covers the helm, while the planing V-bottom and reverse bow establish the sporting brief without proving any particular used boat’s speed or ride.
Model-year documentation matters. The current official page states an overall length of 11.56 m, hull length of 10.93 m, beam of 3.60 m, draft of 1.00 m and approximate displacement of 9.6 t. Pardo’s archived 2021 brochure instead gives 11.90 m overall, 10.95 m hull length, 0.90 m draft and about 7 t. Those are separate documentary versions, not numbers that should be averaged.
| Item | 2021 official document | Current official page | Buying interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall length | 11.90 m | 11.56 m | identify year, appendages and certificate basis |
| Hull length | 10.95 m | 10.93 m | do not confuse with overall length |
| Maximum beam | 3.60 m | 3.60 m | consistent across the documents |
| Draft | 0.90 m | 1.00 m | confirm configuration and loading |
| Approximate displacement | about 7 t | about 9.6 t | evidently different declaration bases |
The current page specifies 1,000 litres of fuel and 180 litres of water. Its standard lower deck has one double cabin and one bathroom; the optional plan adds a second cabin with twin berths, for two to four berths in total. Both observed Batoo listings record two cabins and one head, although a viewing must confirm the actual joinery and equipment.
Engines, expected behaviour and variants
The current factory range starts with twin 280 hp Volvo V6 petrol engines. Optional pairs are listed as 300 hp D4 diesels, 380 hp D6 diesels and 440 hp D6 diesels. The dossier contains two diesel examples: a 2025 boat advertised with twin D6-380s and 85 hours, and a 2021 boat advertised with twin D6-440s and 196 hours. Those hour readings are listing values, not independently verified meter readings.
Pardo describes top speed as around 40 knots and range as up to 350 nautical miles for the inboard version, but the reviewed material does not supply a complete load, rpm and engine matrix. These are therefore broad factory indications, not predicted results for either listed boat. A meaningful fuel and range estimate needs a sea trial, clean-hull condition, known propellers and drives, an agreed load and instrument data.
Reasoned strengths and limitations
The strongest argument is the deck plan. Clear movement around the central helm, separate lounging zones and a galley close to the cockpit suit groups that spend most of their time outside. Multiple petrol and diesel choices also let owners align power with annual use, local fuel availability and maintenance preferences, provided comparisons account for the entire propulsion package.
The same open architecture sets the main limit. Weather protection is less complete than on an enclosed hard-top, while the optional aft cabin does not create the privacy or storage of a larger cruiser. The T-top, exterior upholstery, transforming furniture and broad deck finish add inspection points. Twin engines and drives can aid close-quarters control and redundancy, but they double many service items.
Ideal use and the owner it best suits
The Pardo 38 makes most sense for fast day trips, anchor stops, coastal transfers and occasional weekends. It fits an owner who values direct access to the sea, sociable deck space and open-air driving, and who has a berth suitable for a 3.60 m beam. Passenger limits and design category should be read on the individual craft’s CE plate rather than inferred from a generic model page.
It is a weaker match for extended liveaboard cruising, cold-season use or owners who need abundant enclosed storage. A buyer should turn the intended programme into numbers: realistic guests, annual hours, longest routine leg and nights aboard. Air-conditioning, generator capacity and other hotel loads can materially change the electrical, maintenance and noise profile.
Used-boat checks before commitment
Begin with technical identity: hull identification number, model year, CE papers, owner’s manual and an option list tied to the boat. This matters because the 2025 Batoo offer records 10.96 m, which does not match either official overall-length figure reviewed here. That field could refer to a different measurement basis or be a catalogue entry; it remains unresolved until documents explain it.
For diesel sterndrive boats, request invoices and serial-number records for engine service, cooling systems, exhausts, drives, bellows, propellers, joystick components and any applicable campaigns. Low hours do not establish condition, because inactivity creates its own risks. A cold start, electronic diagnostics and fluid analysis where the surveyor considers it useful provide better evidence than an hour figure alone.
On deck, inspect bonding and drainage around teak or synthetic covering, hardware, rails, T-top structure, windscreen, upholstery, tables and the optional bimini. Below, test moisture levels, ventilation, sanitation, air-conditioning, charging and access to service points. A structural and systems survey ashore and a properly loaded sea trial answer different questions; neither should substitute for the other.
Alternatives with different priorities
These comparisons are starting points, not claims of equivalence. Each should be tested with the intended crew and programme.
| Model | Reason to compare | Trade-off to examine |
|---|---|---|
| Pardo 43 | related deck concept with more volume | higher berth, running and handling burden |
| Fjord 38 Open | open social deck in a similar band | different layout, shelter and power choices |
| Wallytender 43 | design-led day-boating focus | potentially different price and ownership profile |
| Axopar 37 XC | much more enclosed helm protection | less open experience and another design philosophy |
A useful trial compares sightlines seated and standing, movement past the helm, noise, access to machinery, trim through the speed range and docking in crosswind. Brochure dimensions and attractive photographs cannot settle those differences.
Observed prices and Batoo methodology
The dossier contains two active asking prices: €435,000 for the 2025 example and €470,000 for the 2021 example. That produces an observed range of €435,000–€470,000 from only two offers on 12 October 2026. It is not a valuation or evidence of transaction prices; tax position, options, location, condition, warranties and negotiation can alter the result materially.
The younger boat carrying the lower ask is a useful warning against ranking boats by year alone. Buyers need a signed inventory, tax evidence, title and lien checks, maintenance history and costed survey findings. Batoo analysis describes this narrow snapshot only and makes no claim about the whole European market.
