In brief

The Stabile STAMA 33 is a 9.97 m homologation-length open cruiser with two cabins and twin sterndrives, best suited to couples or small families planning coastal weekends. Its main caveat is technical complexity: dimensions, engine packages, hours and equipment vary across documents and individual boats, so a survey and instrumented sea trial are essential.

The STAMA 33 is a Mediterranean-style express cruiser whose appeal rests on an open cockpit, two-cabin accommodation and sterndrive propulsion in a compact registered length. A buyer should begin with the paperwork, because the sources use two different length conventions: period material and the observed listings show 9.97 metres as the homologation or recorded length, while overall length is stated as 11.07 or 11.20 metres. Those figures describe different references, not an average-sized boat.

Design, dimensions and specifications by document

The 2005 technical account describes a GRP open cruiser with a deep-V form, CE category B, a 3.40 m maximum beam and 1.25 m immersion at the propellers. It gives 5,000 kg light displacement, 6,500 kg fully loaded, ten people and four berths. Batoo’s two 2005 offer records agree on a 3.40 m beam, two cabins and one head, but state 1.20 m draught. A five-centimetre difference can arise from conventions or configuration and should stay unresolved until the individual boat’s documents are checked.

The builder’s current page contains an obvious field problem: 9.97 m appears under beam. Independent agreement between the period sheet and both offers makes 3.40 m the supportable beam figure, while 9.97 m belongs to a length convention. The changes in water capacity, overall length and berth count may reflect platforms, tanks, layouts or later documentation. A buyer should therefore privilege the CE plate, declaration of conformity, registration papers and a physical measurement over any single web page.

Engine variants and defensible performance claims

Both boats in the dossier are advertised with twin Volvo Penta D4 diesels rated at 260 hp each, or 520 hp total, coupled to sterndrives. Their declared running hours differ sharply: 1,420 versus 550. These are offer-level observations, not a model standard and not independently audited mechanical histories. Volvo Penta’s 2004 launch notice confirms that the D4-260 was introduced as a 260 hp package and offered in an Aquamatic Duoprop form, which fits the period but does not authenticate the equipment on either hull.

The contemporary 2005 test boat used twin 210 hp D4s, while the technical choices listed were twin 225 or twin 260 hp. Its 37-knot maximum for the 260 installation and 30-knot cruise were declared figures; the same source warned that load, engine condition and propellers affect consumption and results. Today’s builder page describes a broader envelope, including diesel power up to 2×260 hp and petrol up to 2×310 hp, with different speed estimates. That should be read as version context, not retroactively applied to every 2005 hull. Engine plates, serial-number records, drive ratios and an instrumented sea trial settle the configuration.

Pros and cons in ownership terms

The strongest practical point is zoning. The cockpit serves daytime use, while two separate cabins and one head make short cruises more workable than a single undivided cabin. A 3.40 m beam creates useful volume for a boat with a 9.97 m homologation length. Twin engines may offer propulsion redundancy, but only where fuel, electrical and cooling arrangements are healthy and a failure does not share a common cause.

Complexity is the corresponding drawback. Two common-rail diesels, two sterndrives, electronic controls, teak and hotel systems multiply maintenance points. A generator, air-conditioning or hydraulic passerelle, where fitted, adds value in use but also inspection and replacement exposure. Overall length with bathing platform can also affect berth cost and contractual eligibility, so the marina’s measurement rule matters as much as the brochure number.

Ideal use and the buyer it best suits

This model makes most sense for a couple or small family wanting an outdoor social area, coastal weekends and two sleeping zones, while accepting sterndrive servicing as part of the budget. The layout can support guests, but the current claim of six berths and the period account’s four berths should not be converted into a comfort guarantee. Mattress dimensions, ventilation, privacy, storage and payload need a real-world trial with the intended crew.

It is a weaker fit for an owner prioritising minimum mechanical overhead, remote cruising without specialist support or long periods of neglect. CE category B and a ten-person capacity are design and certification data, not promises that every voyage or loading condition is prudent. Batoo’s analysis is therefore that the STAMA 33 is a space-efficient, systems-rich cruiser whose value depends unusually heavily on maintenance evidence and exact configuration.

Used-boat checks that change the decision

Start by matching the HIN/CIN, build year, CE plate, declared dimensions, engines and drives to the sale contract and available records. A surveyor should inspect the hull for moisture patterns, previous repairs, impact evidence and structural movement, paying close attention to the transom, stringers, machinery beds, through-hulls and platform attachments. Teak thickness and sealant condition matter, but fresh cosmetics must not be mistaken for structural health.

For the D4 installation, request electronic diagnostics and invoices rather than relying on hour counters. Cold starting, oil pressure, coolant temperature, smoke, charging and rated engine speed under load should be recorded on both sides. Each sterndrive needs checks for contaminated oil, metal debris, bellows, universal joints, corrosion, propellers, trim operation and service history. Different engine hours call for explanation, while low hours can also mean prolonged inactivity.

Test the domestic systems as one connected installation: batteries and charging, shore-power protection, bilge pumps, freshwater pressure, water heater, toilet, refrigeration and any generator or air-conditioning. Conduct the sea trial after the haul-out findings are known, recording rpm, GPS speed, vibration, steering response and temperatures. The historical 37-knot figure is a reference condition, not a pass/fail target for a twenty-one-year-old individual boat.

Alternatives and observed price range methodology

A useful shortlist could include the Cranchi Zaffiro 32, Gobbi 315 SC and Bavaria 32 Sport, provided year, engine package and condition are aligned. The comparison should test priorities rather than badges: whether two enclosed sleeping areas are essential, how much cockpit space matters, whether twin sterndrives are acceptable, and which brands have competent local support. Deferred work and annual ownership cost can outweigh a modest asking-price difference.

On 4 October 2026 the dossier contained two active Batoo asking prices for 2005 boats: €60,000 and €86,000. The observed range is therefore €60,000–€86,000 from a sample of two, not a valuation, sold-price series or market index. Tax treatment, commissions, equipment, engine hours, refits, location and negotiation may materially alter the final transaction. Both observations come from the same broker, which further limits market breadth.
